Sustainability Over Spring Break!
By Kathleen McElroy
I’m sure Spring Break can’t come soon enough for some of us, and I am definitely looking forward to it. While Spring Break is the perfect time to have fun with friends and family, the break can also be a great time for practicing sustainable habits! Here is a guide of sustainability tips you can consider implementing to make your trip fun and green!
Travel
The cold weather is not speaking to me whatsoever, and the only thing I want right now is warm weather. Spring Break is the perfect time to find your eco-friendly getaway. Whether you find an eco-friendly mode of transportation (train, bus, carpooling!) or an eco-friendly accommodation (eco-lodges, camping, resorts that prioritize sustainable practices), trips can be made sustainable without sacrificing any fun!
Reusable Items
My big Stanley water bottle keeps all my beverages nice and cold for hours, and I will definitely bring my Stanley with me on my trip. Reusable items are great for reducing waste, and bringing a water bottle will keep you nice and hydrated. Other items, like reusable shopping bags, don’t take up much space and are fabulous for the environment!
Activities
The perfect break after hours spent in the library is reconnecting with nature. Eco-friendly activities, like hiking and biking, are the perfect way to destress, and they are so good for the environment!
Eating
Spring Break could be the perfect time for you to try to implement some vegan or vegetarian meals! These options have lower carbon footprints than meat-based diets, and can be modified for anyone’s preference!
I hope everyone has a fabulous Spring Break!
